Why Businesses are Fussing
over this New Frontier

RE/MAX Masters
I’m going to keep this fairly simple. I’m not the first person to tout the attraction businesses (and I mean really big businesses) are feeling toward Salt Lake City. Surely I won’t be the last. But Utah has definitely got some mojo going on here and I just can’t see keeping it a secret.
Since the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, the world has been taking a much closer look at this state. I’ll list a few of the more notable businesses that have recently made Utah their homes:
- Adobe
- Twitter
- eBay
- Microsoft
- Janicki Industries
- Goldman Sachs
and the list goes on.
In October 2010 Forbes Magazine named Utah the No. 1 Best State for Business. Accolades are pouring in from throughout the country and former Gov. Jon Huntsman’s ambassadorship to China has helped garner international attention. The efforts of Lou Cramer and World Trade Center Utah have helped our business community grow by leaps and bounds on the International front.
Salt Lake City homes for sale are becoming more and more popular. As Salt Lake City establishes itself as a national/international business force, the Utah real estate market will flourish.
Wondering what the fuss is all about? Here are some pointers to help you out!
Great Reasons to do Business in Utah
Dynamic Economy
Utah’s Gov. Gary R. Herbert is zoned in on economic development, education and energy. Utah’s economy is moving forward and more businesses than ever before are taking note of the confident manner with which the state has moved forward in a national economic crisis. The process of focusing on Utah’s strength has paid off and businesses are taking advantage of a dynamic atmosphere in a state that obviously knows how to handle its finances. In fact, the Pew Center on the States named Utah the “Best Managed State in the Nation.”
Excellent Workforce
Utah has one of the youngest workforces in the country with a median age of 28. The state is known for its spirit of volunteerism and the work ethic of its people. There are more than one half million kids in kindergarten through 12th grade here. Get ready for an even more powerful workforce here honed in on technology and high-tech trades.
Quality of Life
Ah, how do we love thee? Let me count the ways. Let’s see, there are four distinct and fabulous seasons here. And don’t even get me started on the spectacular and varied environment. From mountain peaks to desert floors, rivers to lakes and everything in between Utah is flat out stunning. There is a spirit of volunteerism here that is unmatched and a strong sense of community that’s really rather rare. If you buy a Salt Lake City home, don’t be surprised to find a neighbor knocking on your door (cake in hand) to welcome you here. People in Utah tend to live more healthy lifestyles and there are many, many, many opportunities for singles professionals to large families to enjoy Utah’s quality of life.
Tourism
I’ll tell you a little secret, tourism is great for any state. When people visit your community, spend money, and leave happy—that’s a win. The impact on the community’s infrastructure is relatively low compared to that of full-time residents and everyone benefits from an influx of cash poured into our economy. Tourists help support thousands of jobs and (when they’re happy) they provide some of the best advertising money can buy.
Education
According to the Utah Governor’s Office of Economic Development, “Utah's educational institutions have developed practical and innovative approaches to educating the state's continually growing workforce.” Utah ranks among the nation’s leading states for the percentage of it’s population 25 years and older who have completed high school.
A Utah GOED report online notes, in 2006 the state ranked second in the nation, at 92.5 percent. “Davis County was cited as the school district with the highest graduation rate of any school district in the country. At 29.8 percent, Utah ranked 16th in the percentage of residents who hold a four-year college degree.” GOED’s numbers are based on those published by the United States Census Bureau.
Utah is also known for great universities that combine education with invention, research, and technological advancement including Brigham Young University, University of Utah, Utah State University, Weber State University, Dixie State College, Southern Utah University and many more.
Transportation
With the I-15 corridor running through the heart of Utah, easy access in multiple locations to the railroad, a regional airport, multiple major trucking companies, and a stellar public transportation system including light rail throughout Northern Utah, you really can “get there from here.” You can also get your products to anywhere they need to go.
Housing
Salt Lake City homes for sale and Utah real estate are still very reasonably-priced. The inventory is still good (yes, it’s a buyers’ market). Utah real estate investors are likely to be pleased with their purchases several years from now as more and more companies move into Utah and relocate professionals from throughout the country.
